GOAL



Assemble a set of standard Bitcoin transactions, including the private keys, for use in future tests of Bitcoin software. These transactions must have already been added to the Bitcoin blockchain.

NOTES





I have already published a Bitcoin transaction test set. However, since then, I have performed several more projects in which new transactions were created:
- Buying and setting up a Raspberry Pi for storing Bitcoin
- Creating and signing a standard Bitcoin transaction with two inputs and two outputs
- Creating and signing a standard Bitcoin transaction with three inputs and three outputs


This article includes the transactions from the first test set as well as the new transactions. For each transaction, I have tested that the input values produce the expected output transaction. I used Recipe for creating and signing a standard Bitcoin transaction #2, which was written for EBSTv2. Note: I now start the lists of inputs and outputs at 0 instead of 1 - the information for the previously published transactions has been altered to match this.




My working definition of a standard transaction:
- It has at least one input and at least one output.
- All input and output addresses are Pay-To-Public-Key-Hash (P2PKH).
- All input scriptSigs contain uncompressed public keys.




Note: Each input used in a new transaction must be a valid unspent output from a previous transaction. Each input can only be spent once.




The following pieces of information are the necessary input and output components for a standard Bitcoin transaction:

1) For each input:
- The txid of the previous transaction that transferred the unspent output to the input address. When its byte order is reversed, it becomes the "previous_output_hash".
- The index of this unspent output in the previous transaction (the "previous_output_index"). This index is implicit and starts at zero, and can be found by examining the list of outputs in the previous transaction, and finding the position of the relevant unspent output.
- The private key (in hex bytes) of the input address.
- The input amount: The bitcoin amount (or satoshi amount) contained within the unspent output.
- A 32-byte random value (1 per input). The transaction is signed once using each input and each signature requires 32 bytes of entropy.

2) For each output:
- The output address.
- The output amount: The bitcoin amount (or satoshi amount) that this transaction transfers to this output address.

3) For the whole transaction:
- The fee (in satoshi). The fee must be an integer e.g.
"225"
.



In this test set, I have recorded the values that are actually in the transaction. If they were different in the initial controls in the original sources, I haven't recorded this here.

Note: 1 bitcoin == 1e8 satoshi.




Terms and acryonyms:

- tx = transaction
- txid = transaction id




I also checked the txid of each transaction. The txid is calculated by applying the SHA256 algorithm twice to the signed transaction binary data, and then converting the result to little-endian.

Note: Due to Transaction Malleability (transaction signatures can be slightly altered in-flight by third parties without compromising their validity), for some mined transactions (not the ones in this test set) the final txid may differ from the calculated version.


Example: Calculate txid for Transaction 6 in this test set.
